The Downtown Improvement Initiative received a big boost last week when representatives placed 40 dark brown and red planters along the major thoroughfare.
The innovative plant pots were created out of wooden barrels which Bacardi and Company Limited would ordinarily use to age its rum products. Following a donation by Bacardi, however, the barrels were transformed by Roots Landscape into planters.
Organisers of the Downtown Improvement Initiative strategically placed the colourful containers along the heart of Bay Street where they now house a number of brightly coloured plants, including Bougainvillea and Hibiscus.
Project officials said the planters were designed to beautify and enhance the vista of historic Nassau.
Bacardi CEO and President Frank Amaral expressed his organisationᄡs satisfaction at being a part of the project.
モBacardi and Company Limited is pleased to continue our support of the Bahamian tourism product,メ he said.
モIf our Bacardi barrels can be put to good use on Bay Street, we are happy to help,メ he added.
The Downtown Improvement Initiative is a collaborative effort spearheaded and funded by the Ministry of Tourism and participating members of the Nassau Tourism & Development Board.
