Guana Cay Gets ‘Go Ahead’ – Residents Group Lashes Out

Government yesterday signed the Heads of Agreement for a $400 million development project on Great Guana Cay, Abaco.

The project, called Passerine of Abaco, is a part of government’s commitment to strengthen the second home industry of the Bahamas, Financial Services and Investment Minister Allyson Maynard-Gibson said yesterday.

The Save Guana Cay Reef lobby will bring proceedings against the government to declare the $400 million heads of agreement “void, illegal and of no effect”, the group’s lawyer Frederick Smith told The Tribune yesterday.

The Save Guana Cay Reef (SGCR), a group of concerned Bahamian and foreign residents of Guana Cay, fear, despite government assurances of a project which will minimize the impact on the island’s environment, that the planned 600-acre Passerine development will destroy the environment, natural beauty and ambiance of Guana Cay”
