Police swooped on a Nassau nightclub when a Defence Force officer was stabbed and a Bahamian beaten up in two separate incidents.
The 27-year-old man was attacked in the parking lot of Club Waterloo by eight New Yorkers and suffered a broken jaw and neck injuries which required surgery.
Police are also investigating the stabbing of a Defence Force officer, who was injured during a fight outside the same nightclub on Friday night.
The stabbing and a fist fight occurred within minutes of each other, a witness told The Tribune. Three police patrol cars ruched to the scene.
According to Chief Supt. Marvin Dames, prior to the stabbing there had been some disturbance inside the club. However, there were no reports of anyone being harmed.
He said that following the disturbance, the Defence Force officer was walking outside with a fellow officer. They saw two men in the rear of the club who had been involved in the earlier disturbance who then approached them.
The men had an exchange which resulted in one of the men swinging an object at one of the police officers which missed but grazed the chest of the other officer. Mr. Dames said the wound was superficial and police were continuing investigations.
According to Mr. Dames there was an altercation at Dicky Mo’s bar and restaurant which resulted in police pursuing a vehicle into the parking lot of the Radisson Beach Hotel.
At this point the occupants opened fire on the officers. However, no one was injured.
Last night attorney Ian Cargill, representing Dicky Mo’s, denied the incident happened at the restaurant. “It happened at the Radisson,” he said.
