Investigators on Monday were conducting probes into the discovery of a man’s body in the Grand Lucayan Waterway in East Grand Bahama over the weekend.
Dead is Patrick Davis, 27, of #35 Hearn Lane in Freeport.
The discovery occurred close to 30 hours after Drug Enforcement Unit officers arrested two Bahamian males, a Jamaican male and a Haitian female in a high-speed chase in the waterway police said netted $300,000 in marijuana.
Investigators have not indicated a link between both incidents.
Two residents who set out on a fishing trip in the waterway spotted Davisᄡs body floating 600 yards north of the Dover Sound entrance at around 10am and immediately phoned police, authorities said.
Police said Central Detective Unit, Central and Mobile patrol officers were ferried to the scene where they retrieved the body found floating face down and hitting against rocks at the side of the waterway.
The body was reportedly clad in a pair of long blue jeans, blue boxer shorts and one white sock.
Police did not report any visible signs of injury except for what they said was minor facial abrasions on the body.
They indicated that the body appeared to have been in the water for at least 24 hours, and that an autopsy would be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
On Friday night, Drug Enforcement Unit officers on mobile patrol in the waterway spotted a go fast boat speeding toward them and were prompted to chase the boat after the driver began making suspicious maneuvers, police said.
Authorities said the team of DEU officers was about to intercept the driver of the boat when he slowed down, pulled up to the seawall of the waterway and attempted to flee the scene on foot.
One of the DEU officers reportedly pursued the man while the others arrested the two men onboard the $75,000 boat which police said was carrying 12 duffle bags containing 300 pounds of marijuana.
The four were flown along with the contraband to New Providence where they were expected to face formal charges Monday morning, but later that day police reported that all four had been released from custody, pending further investigations.
