Baha Mar Development Company recently announced the appointment of Robert D. L. Sands, to Vice President of Administration and External Relations. Mr Sands, who currently serves as General Manager of the Nassau Beach Hotel, will assume responsibility for the development and execution of Baha Mar’s corporate outreach initiatives, industrial relations and human capital programmes, and will report to Chief Operating Officer, Michael Sansbury.
The announcement came at the end of a series of meetings held for the 2,000 employees of Baha Mar’s Cable Beach Resorts, which comprises the Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino, Nassau Beach Hotel and Radisson Cable Beach Resort.
In his new role, Mr Sands will also act as emissary and spokesperson for Baha Mar and its $1.2bn redevelopment project to take place at Cable Beach. He is to take office following the swift identification of his successor at the Nassau Beach.

He has had a remarkable career and is highly respected within the Bahamian tourism industry and beyond for his integrity and professional achievements. Mr Sands started his career at the Nassau Beach Hotel in 1970. He subsequently spent terms as General Manager at hotels in the Caribbean, and worked for three-years as Vice President & General Manager of the Nassau Wyndham Resort & Crystal Palace Casino before returning to the Nassau Beach Hotel in 2004. In 1993, he received the coveted Cacique “Hotelier of the Year” Award for his outstanding contributions to the development of tourism in The Bahamas.
Mr Sands is Past President of The Bahamas Hotel Association; Trustee both of The Hotel Industry Management and Allied Pension Funds; Senior Vice President of The Bahamas Hotel Employer’s Association; Director of The Nassau/Cable Beach/Paradise Island Promotion Board; Member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army; Member of the Vestry, Epiphany Anglican Church; Director, Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home; Member of the Steering Committee for the University of the West Indies Centre for Hotel and Tourism Management; Chairman, Advisory Committee, School of Hospitality & Tourism Studies; Vice Chairman and Director of BISX; Director, The Bank of The Bahamas and Director of Abaco Markets. He also held previous Board Directorships with the National Insurance Board and Bahamasair.
