DETROIT–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 4, 2005–In a private ceremony yesterday, the airplane was named “Spirit of the Bahamas.”
“We are delighted to introduce our fourth A319 aircraft, ‘Spirit of the Bahamas.’ The arrival of this aircraft celebrates our expanding service to Nassau and San Salvador in The Bahamas,” said Barry Biffle, Chief Marketing Officer of Spirit Airlines.
Spirit currently serves Nassau twice a day non-stop from Fort Lauderdale and serves San Salvador with non-stop Saturday service. Spirit also offers connecting service to the Bahamas from Detroit, New York/LaGuardia, Chicago/O’Hare, Washington, D.C. /Reagan National, Atlantic City, and Providence/serving the Boston area.

Spirit will lease the aircraft from ILFC, International Lease Finance Corporation. With today’s announcement, Spirit’s fleet consists of four Airbus A321s, 23 MD-80s, and four Airbus A319s. Spirit will deliver six more A319s and two more A321s by the end of the year and has another 23 aircraft on order with options for 50 more. Spirit is committed to becoming an all Airbus fleet by early-2007.
