Atlantis Unruffled After Explosion

Operations and guest services at the Atlantis Resort were not affected by a fireworks explosion that occurred Sunday at a container section on Paradise Island, according to an official statement from the resort.

The blaze occurred in an area north of what was formerly Club Med, the statement said.

“ナPersons were offloading fireworks for an event unassociated with Atlantis. The area in questioned was used as a container yard and to store construction materials and equipment,” the resort said.

“The fire was contained to the container and some nearby construction materials, but there was absolutely no damage to Atlantis or any of its facilities. Additionally, the fire did not affect Atlantis operations and guest services were not disrupted.”

The explosion occurred around 6pm and burned for three hours. Four fire trucks that and a crew of almost 20 firefighters that had been dispatched to the scene managed to bring the blaze under control and eventually extinguish it.

Police Chief Superintendent Hulan Hanna told the Bahama Journal that 18 trailers were damaged by fire, some containing roofing materials.

Police reported that two vehicles were destroyed and three persons reportedly sustained minor injuries ヨ Anthony Moxey, seven-year-old Lyntony Moxey and 6-year-old, Lynden Greene.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
