Cable Bahamas’ Pay-Per-View Going Digital

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Movie lovers have much more to look forward to as Cable Bahamas promises to significantly expand its pay-per-view movie and special event service in the coming months. This week the company followed up its recent announcements of channel changes and the launch of digital cable services with the news of an expanded digital pay-per-view service.

Cable Bahamas Director of Marketing and Pay-Per-View David Burrows said that pay-per-view channels are increasing by more than 400% in some areas. “We are excited about what we can do with digital cable service for our subscribers in New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco and Eleuthera in the next few months,” Mr Burrows said. “And because of that, we are going to be able to offer 26 channels fully dedicated to our pay-per-view service. Until now, we have had 16 pay-per-view channels in New Providence and six channels in Grand Bahama and Abaco. Eleuthera has never had pay-per-view before, so no matter which of those islands you live on this is a huge increase.”

To accommodate the new digital pay-per-view channels Cable Bahamas will be decommissioning all but four current analogue pay-per-view channels on July 31. The new digital pay-per-view service will launch in Eleuthera on August 22, in Grand Bahama and Abaco on October 3, and in New Providence on October 11.

Cable Bahamas has supplied pay-per-view services since it began delivering cable television in 1995. Pay-per-view allows cable subscribers to order movies and special events from their remote control. No subscription is required to receive pay-per-view service; subscribers can order what they want and only pay for what they order. Mr Burrows stated that the expanded number of channels will mean more variety of movies to choose from with significantly increased scheduled start times.

“Besides being able to offer more movies and more start times, because our pay-per-view service will be on digital means that our subscribers will also see a vast improvement in audio and video quality,” Burrows said.

To receive digital pay-per-view channels cable subscribers will require a new digital set-top box, soon to be available. There will be several different models at different pricing levels from which to choose with different features in each. Cable subscribers with an existing analogue set-top box will be offered a trade-in rebate to be applied to the purchase of a digital set-top box.

Interested customers and the general public will soon be able to review the entire new digital channel selection and launch updates on the company’s web site, www.cablebahamas.com.
