As Grand Bahama police and U. S. Customs continue to partner and modernize their tactics in the fight against drugs, yesterday officers reported a major drug bust at the Grand Bahama International Airport.
According to assistant press liaison officer, Woman Inspector Loretta Mackey, around 8:15 a.m. Sunday a Continental Airline flight was stopped seconds before its scheduled take-off.
The 20-seater bound for Fort Lauderdale, Florida was recalled to the departure gate by tower officials, on instructions from U. S. Customs officers at the airport.
The U. S. officials boarded the aircraft, carrying out a second and thorough search of luggage on the plane.
Officers discovered a black bag containing 10 kilos of suspected cocaine, weighing approximately 25 pounds with an estimated street value of $100,000.
No arrest was made during the search; however, Grand Bahama Drug Enforcement Unit officers are continuing their investigations into this incident.
