The Ginn Development Company reportedly has decided to go ahead with plans for its multi-million-dollar development project in West End, Grand Bahama.
This decision followed a meeting with Prime Minister Perry Christie last Wednesday, which went “very well,” a well placed source close to the project told The Freeport News yesterday.
Based on that meeting, the Ginn Company is definitely moving forward to purchase the property, the source said.
This decision comes weeks after it was believed that the Ginn Company had abandoned the project, supposedly because of Government’s inaction.
Sources revealed that Ginn was about to sign a Heads of Agreement for the West End project the day Prime Minister Perry Christie suffered a stroke.
Founded by Bobby Ginn, the private real estate development and management firm is recognised as one of the leading real estate companies in the U. S. and has a reputation for creating leisure lifestyle and resort communities.
The company’s massive proposal for Grand Bahama is expected to be no less.
The project will result in a major economic boost for West End, with plans to develop 2,500 acres of land. When fully completed, the Ginn development will comprise a capital investment of some $1 billion.
The first phase will include a golf course, 1,000 single-family lots, a 400-unit condo-style hotel, swimming pool, beach club marina, tennis courts and more.
The Ginn Company has also agreed with the Grand Bahama Development Company to have a massive development with golf courses, hotels, second homes, etc. on the eastern end of Freeport.
Prime Minister Christie in an earlier interview said, “the development, which will take place over a 10-year period, will bring certainty in the construction industry in Grand Bahama.”
Hundreds of millions of dollars are expected to be pumped into the Grand Bahama economy, creating more jobs and opportunities.
According to the company’s website, Ginn is currently under contract or actively developing nearly 18,000 acres in Florida, with additional projects in South Carolina.
The Ginn Company is headquartered in Celebration, Florida, and has more than three decades of experience creating master-planned resort/residential leisure lifestyle and recreation-oriented communities primarily in Florida and Southeastern United States.
It’s core business focus is on real estate development and sales; hospitality development and management; club management and operation; and the development and operation of the private resort golf courses within its communities, the company states.
