Kevin Deon Roker, alias ‘Corruption,’ was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court Thursday morning for the brutal 2003 murder of a Grand Bahama woman, Jewel Mott-Wallace.
Thirty-four year-old Roker a.k.a. ‘Kevie,’ of Golden Gates, New Providence, appeared before Magistrate Franklyn Williams, where he quickly learned he was not required to enter a plea.
Charged with an in-dictable offence, the accused was denied bail and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until November 28, 2005 when a preliminary inquiry is expected to begin.
A seemingly unperturbed Roker lost his composure as he was leaving the court building and lunged at a ZNS cameraman, kicking his camera and causing extensive damage to the piece of equipment.
Mr. Roker was immediately restrained by police and taken away.
According to police, around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2003, a child called the Police Control Room and reported that his mother had left home the day before around 9:00 a.m. and had not returned.
This report sparked a full investigation that led police to the gruesome discovery of Mrs. Wallace’s dead body.
On Saturday August 29, 2003 police received information that a body was found in an abandoned building on Adventurer’s Way and McKenzie Street. The body was later identified as Jewel Mott- Wallace.
Also appearing in Magistrate’s Court were two Jamaican Nationals on a number of armed robbery charges and possession of false documents.
Euton Oliver Edwards, a.k.a. Timmy Edwards, 22, and Damion Costa Allen, a.k.a. Damion Parker, also 22, both stood before Magistrate Subu Swain on four counts of possession of a firearm with intent by means thereof to endanger life, four counts of armed robbery and two counts of causing damage.
The men were not required to enter a plea on any count.
Damion Parker was also charged with possession of false documents, to which he pled not guilty.
As the case was being heard, Magistrate Subu Swain and Attorney Carlson Shurland had a heated exchange, after the mother of one of the accused was put out of the court by one of the officers. Mr. Shurland took great offence and requested that the case be heard in another court.
Charged with an indictable offence, the young men were denied bail and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until the preliminary inquiry in November, 2005.
The matters are set for November 30, 2005 in Court #1 and November 21, 2005 in Court #2.
Appearing in the same court was Rebecca Hepburn, who pleaded not guilty to charges of causing harm.
According to police, on July 26, 2005 Ms. Hepburn willingly and unlawfully caused harm to Kendra Woodside.
Ms. Hepburn was granted $2,000 bail with one surety and the matter was adjourned to December 13, 2005.
