Man Found Dead in Hotel Room

Assistant Commissioner of Police Reginald Ferguson told the Guardian on Thursday that at 8:45 a.m., the man believed to be in his early 40s was found dead in his Coral Towers room. At press time, Mr Ferguson declined to give the particulars of the death, as he said the matter is still under police investigation. He added that the man had been the only occupant of the hotel room, but it was undetermined if he was visiting the country alone.

Atlantis hotel staff were also being tight-lipped about the incident: “We are aware of the of the incident, and it is being investigated by the police,” he said. “I couldn’t confirm or deny anything else.”

The man’s identity is being withheld as investigations continue.

Cable Beach Armed Robbery

In other crime news, police say that two men raided a popular restaurant in western New Providence Thursday night. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Reginald Ferguson, the culprits entered Capriccio Ristorante on West Bay Street at 8:15 and robbed the establishment of an undetermined amount of cash.

He added that the men, one of whom was armed, also robbed two customers of money and other personal items such as credit cards.

The eatery lies in the heart of western New Providence, a popular tourist attraction. There was no indication as to whether the robbery victims were tourists.

Police were called to the scene of another armed robbery on Thursday, as a man held up Umac Electronics Store on Madeira Street.

Assistant – Commissioner Ferguson said that the incident took place at 1:53 p.m. when a man entered the store with what was thought to have been a firearm. Ferguson added that the man robbed the establishment of an undetermined sum of cash and various phone cards.

According to Mr Ferguson, police want anyone with information regarding these incidents to step forward.

“Of course we would be interested in talking to anyone who have anything that might help us,” he said. “The bottom line is, we want to solve the matters as soon as possible.”

The matters are still under police investigation, Mr Ferguson said. No one has been arrested in connection with the cases.
