Afternoon Robbery Leaves Two In Hospital

Police are appealing to business owners to take extra precautions this Christmas season following a string of robberies that has left two men in hospital.

The two men were shot while attempting to disarm a gunman during a robbery yesterday afternoon, according to police.

Police are searching for the two men who escaped in a tan coloured Honda – registration number 15748 – after robbing Quality Discount Mart on Robinson Road, opposite Ida Street.

According to police reports, around 1pm a male entered the store demanding cash.

While leaving the establishment two male employees attempted to disarm the robber; however, during the scuffle a second gunman entered the store and opened fire on the two employees.

The men were last seen travelling west on Robinson Road.

The two employees were taken to the hospital and were said to be conscious.

Police are also searching for two men who they believe committed two robberies on Tuesday evening.

Police reported that two unmasked gunmen entered Laselle’s Notion in Kennedy Sub-Division and ordered the cashier to lay on the ground and demanded cash.

The men were unsuccessful in getting the cash and as a result stole several phone cards and fled the scene on foot.

Shortly after around 6:30pm, Price Busters on Soldier Road was robbed, police said.

The employees were ordered onto the floor and a robber held an employee at gunpoint while taking money out of the cash register.

Police said that a second male who was in the store pretending to be a customer joined the gunman by producing a handgun and forced all customers to one end of the store.

Customers were robbed of cash and jewellery during the robbery, according to police.

Police Inspector Walter Evans said it is believed that men who robbed the store in Kennedy Subdivision are the same persons who robbed Price Busters, based on to the description given by the witnesses.

One of the assailants is said to be about six feet tall, of slim build and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the robbery. The other male was described as five feet, seven inches in height, medium build, dark complexion and has a gold tooth.

Capriccio restaurant was also robbed on Tuesday evening, said police.

A gunman entered the Cable Beach restaurant wearing a dark army coloured jacket, black pants and a dark coloured scarf over the lower portion of his face.
