Nassau, Bahamas – Home entertainment aficionados have something new to celebrate with the opening of Cable Bahamas’ new Oceans Digital TV store at the Mall at Marathon. Crowds flocked to the store as soon as the doors opened for the first time, eager to see, hear and touch digital television, many for the first time.
The store showcases all of the new digital cable services the company now offers and features two 52οΎ’ high definition televisions and another 17 flat-panel televisions to show off the variety of digital TV and music services now available. Two choices of digital set-top boxes are also on display, from an affordable all-digital version to a full-featured model that includes high definition (HDTV) output and a personal video recorder.
New digital cable channels now include up to 285 channels, with 50 channels of DMX digital music, 34 pay-per-view channels, more than 40 premium movie channels and extended special interest services such as foreign language, religious, sports, music and news programming. Digital services can be added to basic cable for as low as $4.95 per month.
“The response has been phenomenal,” said Director of Marketing and Pay-Per-View David Burrows at the store’s opening on Monday. “There was a steady stream of customers who came in to see what the digital cable experience was all about and a great many of them walked out the door with a new digital box in their hand,” Mr Burrows said.
The company stated that their Customer Care Centre at their nearby Robinson Road facility is still the primary location for bill payments and customer service needs.
Five live radio remote broadcasts from the store on Island FM, Joy FM, 100 Jamz and Love 97 in the first few days and this seemed to add to the excitement. “People came in because they heard Eddie Carter from Island FM talk about all our great packages and pricing and others came because of Greg Lambkin [of Love 97] talking about how the store was so beautiful,” Burrows stated. “And I have heard the same from so many customers that we are full convinced that this was the right thing to do,” Burrows continued. “It really seems like people wanted somewhere that they could experience digital cable before they buy and now they have it.”
The company also announced earlier this month the signing of a new agreement with the National Basketball Association for the exclusive authorised distribution of NBA LEAGUE PASS for $186 for a six-month season. The season-long package includes up to 40 games each week from November 1 through April, 2006. The company offered the new sports package with a free preview during the first week of the season.
Cable Bahamas developed the retail outlet concept for its new Oceans Digital TV product launched in September and October of this year. The company conducted numerous consumer surveys to ensure that it was truly meeting the needs and interests of the local market, and early results indicate that the move was a good one.
The store is located near the food court of the Mall at Marathon and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday’s 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
