WEST END οΎ— Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour announced a hurricane recovery plan targeted to reopen the property in time for the Christmas holidays.
“We feel this is possible based on our assessment of hurricane damages and our previous experience with recovery efforts,” said Bob Kramm, senior vice-president and chief operating officer.
Hurricane Wilma struck Grand Bahama shortly after it departed the Florida coast. It approached from the south, sparing the resort from storm surge damage due to its location on the property’s north shore. Most of the wind damage was to landscaping with lesser impact on roofs and buildings. The resort’s high quality construction was credited for the minimal structural damage.
“We have the infrastructure in place to support our restoration team,” said Claxon Williams, vice president of construction. “This includes emergency generators to power our water and sewer systems and our restaurants and other public spaces. We already have work crews on site to clean up and repair the damage.”
The Old Bahama Bay team was immediately on site assessing damage, airing out rooms, doing every thing possible to get the resort back up and running as soon as possible. The staffs’ dedication and earnest efforts to help their resort is part of the spirit that makes this unique hotel work so well. The company plans to keep all staff on at this time.
Old Bahama Bay is initiating a “Return to West End Rewards Programme” to entice and encourage vacationers to return to the property. Return to West End coupons will offer room rate discounts and on-site benefits and will be provided to all guests whose reservations need to be cancelled for the restoration work and all guests who make reservations during the restoration period. These will be accompanied by special travel agent incentives as well.
“Our customers are our friends and we want them to know we appreciate their business,” said Jennifer Ehrman, vice president of resort sales and marketing “These incentives are designed to thank them for their support.”
Old Bahama Bay is a 228-acre community comprised of 82 home sites, 72 dock slips and now, a 49-room luxury suite hotel.
