Learning Financial Services at an Early Age

The Essay Competition sponsored, as part of the annual Careers Fest & School Outreach Programme hosted by The Bahamas Financial Services Board, will be complemented by a Speech Contest this year.

The initiative is part of BFSB’s ongoing Financial Centre Focus programme, which serves to profile the industry and attract new industry entrants. Cosponsors of the event are the Rotary Club of East Nassau and Rotary Sunrise, along with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Financial Services and Investments.

Bahamas Business Solutions Limited has been a long-time supporter of BFSB’s School Outreach Programme and this year agreed to join other sponsors – whose collective contributions have paid for the two-day Careers Fest and the prizes for the Essay Competition – by agreeing to sponsor the Speech Competition. BBSL will contribute an IBM ThinkPad R52 and Carrying Case for the winning student, and for the student’s school, will donate a PhotoSmart Digital Camera and Lexmark Photo Printer. Similar prizes were purchased by the Sponsors for the winner of the Essay Competition.

Winston C. Rolle, Sales and Marketing Manager, says Bahamas Business Solutions Limited is proud to be a part of the outreach programme, which serves as an excellent orientation for the nation’s number two industry. He commended BFSB and the various sponsoring agencies for its long-standing commitment to this objective.

This year, says BFSB Executive Director Wendy Warren, both the Essay and Speech Competitions will be judged by the winners of the Financial Services Industry Excellence Awards: Paul J. Winder (Ansbacher Bahamas Limited), Executive of the Year; Crestwell R. Gardiner (Fidelity Group of Companies), Professional of the Year; and Francelyn J. Bethel (Oceanic Bank and Trust), Achiever of the Year.

Editors Note: Among the biggest financial scandals in The Bahamas over the past five years, many of those involved, such as Derek Turner and Axxess International were members of BFSB.
