An attempted armed robbery and shooting that left a 60-year-old man in hospital is under police investigation.
Officer in charge of crime briefing, Inspector Walter Evans, said the victim pulled up to his house around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Skyline Drive area, when two men approached him. Police reports say the culprits forced the man into his house and tried to rob him.
When they didn’t get any money, Insp Evans said the robbers shot the man to the left side of the hip. He was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Police reports said the men fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Cavalier.
Another armed robbery overnight has been linked to this incident. Insp Evans said shortly before midnight, two men were walking along Bay Street when a white Chevrolet Cavalier drove up beside them.
Two men came out of the vehicle and robbed one of the victims of a Rolex watch and a medallion chain. The other was robbed of cash and a wristwatch.
“We believe that both of these incidents are connected. Police investigations into these matters are ongoing,” Insp Evans said.
Police are also investigating the drowning of a 25-year-old man. According to police reports, the man believed to be from Devon, England was in the Clifton Pier area on the Talon, a private yacht.
Insp Evans added that the man left the vessel and a short time later, other individuals on the yacht found him “in a lifeless condition.”
The people retrieved the unconscious man from the water and then travelled to Stuart’s Cove. He was then transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said Stuart’s Cove has not been linked to the drowning.
