Reports indicate that the gunman, who was last seen wearing a pair of blue trousers, a black jacket and a white handkerchief hiding the lower half of his face, entered Fergie’s Meat Mart and demanded that the cashier open the register.
When the clerk was unable to open the register the gunman took the machine, which contained a small quantity of cash, police reported.
The robber reportedly escaped on foot.
Police were also yesterday investigating a shooting in the Garden Hills area that left one resident in hospital.
The incident happened around 10pm.
The details are that a 32-year-old resident of the area had just pulled up to his home when two men approached him, one of whom was armed.
Police say several shots were fired and the homeowner was hit in the left arm and thigh area.
The man was taken to hospital and was yesterday listed in stable condition.
Meantime, officers from the Northeast Division also seized a firearm on Tuesday that led to the arrest of a 20-year-old resident of Foxdale.
Police say the young man was found in possession of a black .380 pistol with two live rounds of ammunition.
