What should have been just an ordinary snorkeling trip turned tragic for a 25-year-old tourist, who police said drowned around 3pm Tuesday.
Reports indicate that the victim, who is believed to be a resident of Devon, England, somehow ventured off from the group snorkeling at Stuart’s Cove, South Ocean.
Police say the man was found a short time later in an unconscious state.
The tourist was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In other news from the crime beat, police investigations continued yesterday into an attempted and armed robberies.
The first incident occurred at a home in the Skyline Drive area.
A 60-year-old man had just arrived home around 9pm Tuesday when he was approached by two men – one dressed in a ski mask and a pair of blue jeans and armed with a handgun, police reported yesterday.
According to Police Inspector Walter Evans the man was ordered inside his home, where the robbers demanded cash. Police say as a result, the homeowner was shot in the left hip area.
He was taken to hospital where his condition was last listed as stable.
Meantime, the robbers reportedly escaped in a white Chevy Cavalier.
Police say it was shortly before midnight that they received reports that two persons in the West Bay Street area had been held up and robbed by two men in a white Chevy Cavalier.
One of the bandits has been described as approximately six feet tall with a scarf around his face, armed with a handgun.
Police believe the two incidents are connected.
Investigations continue.
