The Bahamas is abuzz with excitement! ᅠThe Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) starts tomorrow and it promises to be one of the most entertaining Bahamian events of the year.
The organizers and public relations people have been working since the closing day of last year’s festival to ensure that this year’s event will be even bigger and better than last year’s super successful inaugural festival.
Filmmakers from around the world have contributed an almost dizzying array of cinematic art for this year’s event. Some of the best up-and-coming filmmakers and a few masters of the craft have submitted their films. The smorgasboard of films will be available for public screenings Friday, Saturday and Sunday at various locations in Nassau and Paradise Island.
The festival is, again, being hosted at Atlantis Bahamas, meaning world class hospitality will accompany world class filmmaking to create a weekend of excitement that the Bahamas hasn’t seen since, well, last year’s festival.
While the focus is on films, no festival would be complete without festive parties. So, there’s plenty of party action all weekend, including several must-attend events. ᅠSee the schedule on the Bahamas Calendar.
Spike Lee honoured
One of the highlights of the event will be the presentation of the Career Achievement Award to World-renowned and award-winning director and actor, Spike Lee. The award will honor Mr. Lee’s innovative style and his profound effect on cinematic artistry. The Tribute to Spike Lee will open with an onstage interview with the director, during which clips of his films will be presented. The Tribute Ceremony will be moderated by distinguished film critic and journalist, Karin Durbin.
Filmmaker’s panels
Another prized aspect to this year’s festival will be the Filmmaker’s Panels. The Panels include sessions on: Film Financing and Producing; Producing in the Caribbean; Marketing, Distributing and Festivals; Actors and Their Directors; and Producing Shorts. The Panels will all take place at the Ardastra Gardens Zoo and Conservation Center. A special Music and Film panel will take place in the Filmmaker Lounge at the Atlantis Hotel. BIFF has invited highly respected and resourceful industry executives to speak on behalf of each category. ᅠAspiring filmmakers can not afford to miss these valuable educational panel sessions.
