FNM Senator Tommy Turnquest criticised the PLP government for having no legislative agenda and for lacking transparency and accountably.
Mr Turnquest made the remarks while addressing an FNM rally in Freeport over the weekend.
Making his first appearance in Grand Bahama since the FNM convention last month, Mr Turnquest thanked Grand Bahamians for their support while he served as leader of the opposition.
“I encourage all FNMs to support the newly elected team as we must get back to the real business at hand, which is returning an FNM government to office.”
Mr Turnquest said he wants to motivate and mobilise young Bahamians who hunger for a decisive change in the direction and quality of governance.
“That is why I continue to be a part of the FNM team ,that will create more than jobs, but will create a Bahamas of Bahamian ownership, of power, of decision, of innovation, and of a fair share of the economic opportunities that this great country provides.”
He added that since coming into office, the PLP has shown that it lacks direction.
“The PLP government has no plan. They have no legislative agenda. Parliament has now adjourned until January 11, 2006. I did a review of the number of times the Senate has met in the past three years and it has been a total of 50 days.
“Excluding the budget, they have only passed 38 pieces of legislation, and many of those were just minor amendments to existing laws,” he said.
Mr Turnquest added that his vision and desire for the country can only be achieved by a government which is focused, dynamic and “prepared to deal with the complexities of governing in this challenging 21st century environment.”
He also called on the PLP to “come clean” with all arrangements relating to the Baha Mar deal by releasing the agreement for sale between Baha Mar Development Company Limited and the Hotel Corporation of the Bahamas, the Treasury and the prime minister – all dated April 6, 2005.
