Two Airlifted To Nassau After Horrific Traffic Crash

Two male residents of Eight Mile Rock were airlifted to the trauma centre of the Princess Margaret Hospital around 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning, following a horrific traffic crash late Friday evening.

Forty-eight year old Gary Petit-Homme, of Hanna Hill, and 39-year-old Anthony Deveaux, of Bartlett Hill, were said to be in serious condition and in need of further medical treatment.

The duo had to be rushed to the Accident and Emergency Section of the Rand Memorial Hospital after their vehicles collided on the Warren Lavarity Highway around 11:40 p.m.

Local EMS technicians treated the men on the scene before whisking them off by ambulance.

According to police information, Mr. Deveaux, who was driving a grey 2000 self-drive (SD) Grand Cherokee Jeep, slammed into the champagne coloured 1992 Mercury Sable, driven by Mr. Petit-Homme before lunging into the air and landing upside-down on the grass median on the opposite side of the road.

The vehicles were wrecked beyond repair. Parts of both vehicles ラ including the engine, transmission and radiator ラ were scattered about the road as a result of impact.

Police traffic officials revealed that the SD vehicle, registration number #735, is owned by Sunshine Rentals.

Latest reports said both men were in stable condition.

Officers from the police traffic division are investigating this latest traffic mishap, to determine who and exactly what caused the smashup. However, from preliminary evidence speed and overtaking are said to be major factors.

This has promoted local police officials to again reiterate the message of “driving to arrive alive.”

Just last week officers took to the streets handing out safety material to residents. “Again we are appealing to the motoring public to be attentive and exercise good judgment when driving,” said Inspector Loretta Mackey, assistant press liaison officer. “We all know the danger of reckless driving, so please don’t take unnecessary risks.”

Citing overtaking, speeding, tailgating, driving under the influence (alcohol or drugs) and using cellphones while on the road as the main causes of road accidents, Inspector Mackey further urged that drivers exercise caution and care to eliminate potential accidents that could be avoided.
