According to the U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas departed from Port Canaveral, Fla., Sunday at about 5:30 p.m. en route to Coco Cay, Bahamas. He was reported missing at about 11 a.m. Monday.
He was last seen at about midnight Sunday, when he told his traveling companions that he was going to bed, Royal Caribbean said in a statement. His friends said he did not spend the night in the stateroom they were sharing.
The ship was at sea for about 11 hours between the times he was last seen and then reported missing, Petty Officer Ryan Doss said.
Royal Caribbean said it “fully supporting the search in numerous ways, including the collection of onboard records, videotapes and statements, and preserving the young man’s stateroom for investigators.”
“We are determined to do everything we can to assist the authorities in searching for this young man,” Royal Caribbean President Adam Goldstein said.
