The nation's murder count rose to 25 yesterday, when a former Police officer was shot and killed in Pinewood Gardens.
Chief Superintendent Hulan Hanna confirmed that 31-year-old Marcian Scott was shot around 7:15 a.m., while attempting to take a family member to work.
"it is believed that a small white vehicle drove up to Scott's yard and a male exited the vehicle and fired through the rear right passenger windshield.
He said that Mr Scott was struck several times in the upper body, including the neck area.
He stated that police are following several leads and request that anyone who may have more information on the matter, to fax such data to the local authorities. It is reported that after the shots were fired, the male re-entered the vehicle, the car then reversed and sped off.
Chief Supt Hanna expressed condolences on behalf the entire police force and said that he was saddened by the tragic occurrance.
Douglas Hanna, Vice President of security at Atlantis, Mr Scott's boss, said that he was a man who treated his workers like family and his family like royalty.
"They would come and look for him in the evening and when he got off from work, he would come and check on them during the day."
Mr Hanna said that he feels Scott was cut down in the prime of his life, seeing he was so young and had so much more to live for.
"This is just so shocking man. Half of my staff were here earlier," Hanna said, while describing the suddenness of Scott's death. Long time friends of Scott also expressed similar unbelief, on hearing the news of his murder early yesterday morning.
"This murder does not make any sense. I have known Marcian from we were teenagers on the Police Cadet Corps and he was always a nice guy," said a friend of Scott.
"He never bothered anyone and would help you if he could. This makes absolutely no sense to me that he died this way. I have to pray that the truth will be revealed, so that Marcian's good name will continue to stand because he was harmless," she said.
Scott was said to have worked in the Security Investigation Department of Atlantis since its inception. His supervisor described him as being a man who worked with much zeal in his department and while on the police force.
