Inspector Walter Evans told the Nassau Guardian yesterday that after six months of intense police work, law enforcement officials have apprehended a suspect in the death of Judith Price, a 12th-grader at C.C. Sweeting High School. “Friday past, after being on the run for a few months, police officers arrested (a male). He is now in police custody and is expected to appear in court as early as Monday and be charged with the murder of Judith Price,” said Inspector Evans.
After completing their investigations into the death of Judith Price, investigators determined that her death was not just another traffic fatality, he said, adding that because it was a hit-and-run accident law enforcement officials classified Judith’s death as a homicide. Police investigators had been searching for the suspect since January.
Judith was on her way home from the carnival with her two sisters and her 18-year-old cousin, Luke Frazer, when the incident occurred just a few minutes away from the girls’ home, according to police reports. Around midnight, on January 2, a white car with four male occupants approached Frazer, who was lagging a short distance behind the three girls on Davis Street in the Oakes Field area, police said. The vehicle allegedly hit Frazer and drove off only to return a few minutes later, but this time only the driver was in the car. It was further alleged that an argument followed and the driver drove into the crowd.
Judith, along with her two sisters, eight-year-old Viola Price and 15-year-old Precious Price, were all hit by the vehicle. All four victims were rushed to the hospital. Judith died from her injuries around 4pm that day.
