Ingraham Slams Traffic

Mr Ingraham claimed that the roadways in Southwest and eastern New Providence have now reached an “intolerable level.” “Clearly, new road works are necessary to bring traffic flow along the east/west corridors of New Providence, whether through the middle of the island or along its north coast,” Mr Ingraham said, during his contribution to the budge debate.

“A Free National Movement (FNM) Government will complete its previously planned road improvement project for New Providence and undertake required additional traffic studies to inform designs and construction of new and additional roadways, possibly including overpasses.”

In the Family Islands, Mr Ingraham said an FNM government would undertake studies to inform the design of new road networks in Abaco and Exuma οΎ– and other islands as they develop. “We will bring all Family Island roads up to acceptable standards,” he said.

Too, Mr Ingraham promised to bring “order” to the public transportation system once his party is elected as the new government. His assertion came just one day after The Ministry of Transport and Aviation publicly launched an in-depth outline of the proposed Model for the Unification of the Bus System for New Providence.

The ministry publicly launched an in-depth outline of the proposed Model for the Unification of the Bus System for New Providence.

And while acknowledging that certain aspects of the proposed transition process would be difficult to implement, the ministry stresses that it is not a time for half measures. There are about 280 buses currently operating on the roads on any given day.

“A Band-Aid solution will not fix the inherent problems of the current system. The time is opportune to carry out appropriate reform of the industry, decisively and systematically. All the weaknesses and inadequacies of the current system must be addressed fairly and head-on.”

The ministry boasts that a unified system would assist in easing traffic congestion. However, a deadline has yet to be set for the implementation of the unified system.
