Two Cars Plunge Into Lake

Up to press time the condition of the elderly man injured in the accident was unknown.

According to traffic officer Sergeant 215 David Lockhart, three vehicles were travelling east on J F K Drive sometime after 10 a.m. Wednesday. One car was a small Daihutsu, the other, a Ford F-150 truck and the third, a heavy duty truck.

“The driver of the Ford F-150 attempted to overtake the Daihutsu but lost control of his vehicle. The driver of the Daihutsu, in attempting to avoid a collision with the Ford F-150, hit his brakes but was struck by the heavy duty truck. As a result, the Daihutsu and the Ford F-150 plunged into the lake. The driver of the Daihutsu received slight injuries and was taken to the hospital,” the officer explained. He noted that the matter is under investigation.

Sergeant Lockhart added, “We can’t say if speed was a factor at this time, but we do know that the road was wet.”

On a note of caution the officer said, “We advise the public that whenever the road is wet, they must adhere to the posted speed limits or even go under the speed limit because if they try to apply brakes on a wet surface, the car is automatically going to slide.”

He added that, “Persons who overtake know that you assume the responsibility of whatever happens when you are overtaking. It may not be against the law, but you must overtake safely. If the conditions are not the best conditions then it’s best not to overtake.” The officer said he was unable to say what kind of charges would be pending but all circumstances surrounding the incident would be investigated.
