GBb Records Its Seventh Homicide

Less than a week after Grand Bahama recorded its sixth homicide, police again have their hands full with murder number seven that took place over the weekend.

Authorities say that at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2006, police were notified by EMS personnel at the Rand Memorial Hospital that a man had been brought into the facility in a private vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to both arms and abdomen.

As a result of that troubling information, officers from the Mobile Patrol Division rushed to the hospital, where they saw the victim, 26-year-old Randolph Wallace, in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries around 11:16 that same night.

Initial investigations by police revealed that shortly after 10:00 that night, Wallace, a resident of #137 Fawcett Lane, was standing outside an apartment building at the intersection of Weddell Avenue and Murchison Drive when gunshots were fired in the area.

Reports further stated that Wallace then ran in a southwesterly direction, collapsing on a porch of an apartment on Adventurer’s Way.

Just last week 29-year-old Jermaine Roberto Toote of Alice Town, Bimini, was gunned down and killed in the Fiddler’s Green area.

According to police, a man at the scene told officers that he and another male relative had just gotten home and were getting out of the vehicle when they were approached by two men who came out of the bushes.

The man revealed that one of the men, who was reportedly armed with a handgun, opened fire and he and his relative both ran in different directions.

After receiving the report, officers combed the area and discovered Toote’s lifeless body lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

As Grand Bahama murder count rises, police are growing more concerned over this violent trend.

Police officials contend that no one murder is more important than the other; however, they are disturbed by these latest incidents.

Central Detective Unit officers on Grand Bahama have launched an intensive investigation into circumstances surrounding this latest shooting incident.

With no known motive for the shooting, police are appealing to anyone that may be able to assist with this investigation to please call: 242-350-3089 or 242-350-3106 or Crime Tipsters 352-1919. All information will be kept in the strictest of confidence.
