New BTC Services Are Less of A Rip-Off

“Talking for less” is just one of the mottos adopted by The Bahamas Telecommunications Company, which launched three new products on Wednesday aimed at making long distance calls cheaper and improving Internet service.

BTC launched Voice Internet Bahamas Electronic (VIBE), which allows customers to use a standard telephone and broadband Internet connection to make and receive international phone calls at an “incredibly low rate”.

Vibe transmits calls securely over the Internet through the use of a telephone Internet adapter and is plugged into a broadband Internet connection.

The VIBE service works with a variety of telephone adapters and software programmes that use a VIBE account to place outbound calls and receive inbound calls over a high speed Internet connection.

With VIBE, customers can talk as long as they want at a fixed rate, which is considerably cheaper than residential phone lines.

Tellis Symonette, BTCメs vice president of Wireless and Internet, said the new technology at the company is something customers should take advantage of.

“You can have unlimited packages with VIBE, so itメs a great, great product. We had complaints before about the cost to call long distance and so VIBE brings them to a very low, flat rate to call to the United States,” Mr. Symonette explained.

In addition to lower rates for overseas calls, BTC has re-branded its DSL high speed Internet by introducing I-Connect.

I-Connect is a faster Internet connection than the DSL and has a lower monthly fee, officials said.

“With I-Connect we have improved the service internally as well as with support, so itメs a really good product that we are launching for our people and we hope that they take advantage of those two important products of BTC,メ Mr. Symonette said.

He added that the launch of I-Connect will allow customers to sign up for DSL high speed Internet service at a low introductory price. I-Connect will operate over the customerメs existing telephone line.

Acting President and CEO Leon Williams said he is proud that the company can continue to provide great phone and Internet services.

As for future products to be offered by BTC, Mr. Williams said the customers will just have to wait and see what new technology the company will bring to The Bahamas.

He added that so far the new products offered to the customers have received great response from BTC customers.

“The BlackBerry is going to be launched soon, GSM in Abaco is right on the heels of being launched and GSM in Bimini is on the heels of being launched, so we have lots of products coming,” Mr. Williams said.

BTC officials also announced on Wednesday that they are partnering with Bank of The Bahamas to issue a prepaid Visa card.

During the launch, officials indicated that persons who signed up for I-Connect or Vibe will receive a free prepaid Visa card with a $250 spending limit redeemable at BTC.

Persons interested in the new products can sign up at the companyメs Marathon branch or John F. Kennedy Drive headquarters.
