Volvo Treasure Hunt Winner Announced

Seven finalists arrived on an undisclosed island, where they began the final stages of their search for the buried Pirates of the Caribbean-themed Volvo XC90 V8 SUV.

Said the organisers: “Over the past four weeks, over 52,000 contestants worldwide have been frantically deciphering clues, similar to the format of reality TV shows Survivor and The Amazing Race; with the hope of having a chance to uncover a buried, one-of-a-kind Volvo XC90 V8 valued at $82,000.

“The luxury SIJV features a variety of elements inspired by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, including menacing graphics from the film, black leather seats and custom painted 20-inch wheels.”

On Tuesday the contestants took part in a day-long hunt for the prize at the Abaco Club at Winding Bay.

Finally, after contestant David Hutz won the last challenge on Wednesday, August 9, and he was celebrated as the winner of the competition, the shipping container holding the luxury SUV was lifted from the earth near Little Harbour, Abaco (famous for Pete’s Pub and the Johnston Foundry where the bust of Sir Milo Butler that now resides at Rawson Square, Nassau, was created).

On Friday, August 25 a series of “webisodes” documenting the hunt will premier online at www.volvocars.us/thehunt

Thousands of online participants were narrowed down to seven contestants from around the world.

The other finalists were:
– Jenny Buckalew, 35, Newnan, Ga.
– David Hutz, 30, Herndon, Va.
– James Hutz, 57, Carefree, Ariz.
– Karl Lloyd, 33, Surrey, England
– Susanne Kalintsch, 44, Trieben, Austria
