The mega pageant will be held on October 6-17 at the Kendal G. L. Isaacs gymnasium and is hosted by the Miss Bahamas Universe Committee in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chairperson of the host committee of the Miss Bahamas Universe Pageant, Ms Gaynell Rolle, said the pageant would bring together the largest group of official goodwill ambassadors from various countries around the world. On October 6, Ms Emmary Pinto, the reigning Miss Intercontinental will make her first official appearance in The Bahamas and she will be conduct a promotional tour of the island. Emmary, along with designated international television stations and news agencies will film a documentary entitled "the splendor of The Bahamas" for the millions of viewers watching the pageant worldwide. The Miss Intercontinental pageant will also serve as a backdrop for Bahamian designers to display their fashions and local Bahamian crafts to the world as they are modeled by the international beauty queens.
The first official appearance of all Miss Intercontinental delegates will be on October 9 at a welcome and press reception to be hosted by the Ministry of Tourism. An island-wide float parade depicting a cultural display of "the islands of The Bahamas" will be held on Oct. 13
Meanwhile, the 50-plus delegates participating in the pageant, the international press, visiting national directors, and the family and friends of the delegates will stay at the Wyndham Nassau Resorts. As security is of utmost importance during such a major pageant, the committee has secured the services of a private firm who will be assisted by the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Ms Rolle pointed out that pageant coordinators are aware that such a major event could be attractive to terrorists but they will be doing everything in their power to protect the sovereignty of The Bahamas, its citizens and its visitors.
"It is our hope that through this venue, we will be able to further promote the islands of The Bahamas, our people and our culture," Ms Rolle said. "We invite you to lend a helping hand, not to criticise our efforts, but to join us as we show the world the best The Bahamas has to offer."
