Securities Regulators To Discuss Sector Challenges

The conference will be officially opened by Minister of State for Finance, Senator James Smith.

The Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators (CGSR) was established to facilitate information sharing and promote regulatory capacity-building and training in the region. It seeks to harmonise regulatory policies and legislation and to give the region a unified voice in international forum.

This forum brings together local, regional and international capital market stakeholders. They will exchange ideas on current regulatory challenges with a view to broadening participants’ un-derstanding of these issues.

Under the theme “Challeng-es Facing Caribbean Securi-ties Regulators: Priorities & Perspectives,” the Conference will address matters such as combating market abuse, corporate governance, enforcement, mergers & acquisitions and minority shareholders’ interests, hedge funds regulation, and the relaxation of exchange controls.

Participants in the event will be drawn from the Central Bank of The Bahamas, securities commissions and ex-changes in the Caribbean region, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the International Or-ganisation of Securities Com-missions (IOSCO) and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (USSEC). The accounting and legal professions will also be represented.

This two-day event will take the form of a series of technical presentations and panel discussions. Presenters will include Ana Carvajal, Ad-visor ヨ Technical Monetary and Capital Markets Depart-ment of the IMF; Kendrick Christie, president ヨ Bahamas Institute of Chartered Ac-countants; Wendy Craigg, governor – Central Bank of The Bahamas; Keith Davies, CEO – Bahamas International Securities Exchange; Phil-lippe Richard, secretary general ヨ IOSCO; Ethiopis Tafara, Director of International Af-fairs at the USSEC, and Wen-dy Warren, CEO, Bahamas Financial Services Board.
