According to Inspector Walter Evans, the first set of arrests occurred around 11 oメclock Saturday morning when Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) officers and Mayaguana police, acting on information, travelled to Pirates Well where a trailer was situated.
A search of the trailer reportedly resulted in the officers discovering 17 bales of a substance believed to be marijuana.
Inspector Evans said two Mayaguana residents ヨ one male and one female ヨ along with a man from New Providence were arrested in connection with the discovery.
The suspects along with the drugs were expected to arrive on New Providence sometime over the weekend.
In the other matter, police arrested a 35-year-old man around 11am Saturday as he attempted to transit the Lynden Pindling International Airport en route to the United States.
Police reports indicate that officers discovered five-and-a-half pounds of cocaine concealed in one of the manメs bags during a routine search.
A 42-year-old motorist also remained in police custody over the weekend for his suspected role in a traffic fatality.
Reports indicate that the fatal mishap occurred around 7:30 Friday evening when a Dodge truck driven by the 42-year-old ヨ Callen Saint Jean of Marsh Harbour ヨ and a Honda Civic collided on the SC Bootle highway in Treasure Cay.
Thirteen-year-old Wensell Laroda, a passenger in the Honda, was reportedly ejected from the vehicle upon impact eventually landing in bushes some distance away.
According to reports, he sustained multiple, severe injuries and died instantly.
The driver of the Honda also sustained injuries in the accident and was airlifted to New Providence and transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was detained in serious condition.
Saint Jean was reportedly treated at a local clinic and upon his release was arrested by police in connection with the traffic fatality.
