Hurricane Earl: Which Way Will He Go?

Hurricane Earl could make landfall as far west as eastern Maine and as far east as Cape Breton, according to forecasters who say it’s simply too early to predict exactly which area will be most impacted by the storm.

“The message is pretty much the same for someone in Cape Breton as it would be for Moncton because of that large area of uncertainty — heads up for strong winds and heavy rain potential here,” said Chris Fogarty, program supervisor with the Canadian Hurricane Centre. “(It’s not) really possible for more detail than that just based on the uncertainty.”

Fogarty explained that various computer models contribute to a cone of hurricane track possibilities, and as the storm moves closer that cone will become narrower and the exact track much more certain than it is at this point.
