Zhivargo Laing Hits Back at Sir Jack

Minister of State for Finance Zhivargo Laing, is not pleased by recent comments made by Sir Jack Hayward suggesting that the Free National Movement (FNM) Government is responsible for stalling Grand Bahama’s economy.

“Sir Jack’s comments are silly, misguided and offensive,” Laing said.

Laing went on the offensive suggesting that instead of laying the blame at the feet of the Government, Hayward should turn his sights to the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

Laing’s response comes in the wake criticism from Mr Hayward concerning, among other things, the Government’s refusal to renew a work permit for former Grand Bahama Port Authority chairman Hannes Babak.

Hayward notes that the Grand Bahama Port Authority has only one foreigner work permit in the entire organization of over 250 employees.

With that record, he suggested that the organization’s request for a permit should not have been denied.
