PLP MPs Skip Out On Historic Vote

The Free Movement is astounded and deeply disappointed that six Opposition MPs who spoke earlier today on the Atlantic Caribbean Union of Seven Day Adventist Bill were absent when the vote was taken for the passage of the historic bill. The new bill enables the establishment of a single Seventh Day Adventist union in The Bahamas. That Union also includes the Cayman Islands.

The Opposition MPs who spoke on the bill but were absent for its passage include:

• Cynthia Pratt – St. Cecilia

• Frederick Mitchell – Fox Hill

• Picewell Forbes – South Andros

• Alfred Sears – Ft. Charlotte

• Alfred Gray – MICAL

• Anthony Moss – Exuma

It is regrettable that such a large number of Opposition MPs were absent for the final passage of a bill of great significance to the Seventh Day Adventist community. This religious denomination has contributed significantly to the spiritual life and national development of The Bahamas.

The importance of the bill was underscored by the presence in the House of Assembly gallery of various leaders of the Seventh Day Adventist community.
