URCA CEO Resigns After Receiving Threats

The chief executive officer of the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA), Usman Saadat, resigned his post yesterday, citing “personal attacks on him and his family.”

The announcement came the same day two men were indicted for death threats against independent Member of Parliament Branville McCartney.

When asked to clarify the nature of the “personal attacks,” Kathleen Smith, URCA director of policy and regulation speaking on Mr Saadat’s behalf, refused to elaborate further.
