Guilty Fraser Fumes Over Having To Spend Christmas In Jail

Randy Fraser

The Court of Appeal yesterday denied bail to Bishop Earl Randolph Fraser, who was found guilty in a magistrates court last month of having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl in his congregation who had come to him for counseling.

The appellate court justices made the decision to deny bail pending appeal, after just 15 minutes of deliberation.

He will not have a chance to have his appeal heard until February.

Fraser’s attorney Jairam Mangra told reporters outside of court that Fraser is extremely disappointed over the decision.

“He is devastated,” Mangra said. “He thought we had a very good chance at obtaining bail today, but that was not to be. He was absolutely shattered so now we look forward to the actual substantive appeal.”

Fraser, 54, was convicted on November 29.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell sentenced Fraser to three years in prison after finding that he had abused his position of trust by having an affair with the teenager from July 2005 to February 2006.
