Security Officers of the Ministry of Education met for the first day of their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 10th April, 2012 at the Anatol Rodgers High School. During the morning session, the Officers heard from Superintendent Young of the Royal Bahamas Police Force; Mr. Lionel Sands, Director of Education and Rev. Deacon Whitfield Hutcheson of St. George’s Anglican Church.

Director Sands commended the Security Officers for the work that they are doing as the ‘foot soldiers’ of education. He assured them of their importance in the educational system and the awareness of those in authority of what needs to be done to make their job easier.

Mr. Sands stressed the need for Security Officers to act as guardians against law breakers or violent criminals that may seek to cause harm. Further, he encouraged the Officers to desire to pursue knowledge about their field of work. He told them to be knowledgeable of law enforcement, especially as it relates to school affairs and the rights of children. He further admonished the Security Officers to approach and engage persons in a way that ensures calmness and good results.

He encouraged the Officers to share positive ideas and be a part of the village that helps to raise the country’s children while striving to be the best Security Officers in the world.

The annual meeting was well attended by some 160 Security Officers who were also given an opportunity to address their work related challenges.
