Police Commissioner Blasted For ‘Protecting’ People Smuggler

Police Commissioner Ellison Greesnslade was blasted in a local blog article for essentially protecting the boat captain responsible for the deaths of at least 11 Haitians in a botched people smuggling attempt.

The bloggers at Bahamas Press question why the name of the boat captain was not given to media outlets.

The blog points out that when there was shootout at a local bar, the name of the person that police thought was responsible was given to the media, resulting in his name being published on the front pages of local dailies and on numerous news websites.

Commissioner Greenslade has admitted that he knows the name of the boat owner and the boat captain.  Why has that not been released to the media?  If the police are really looking for this individual, as they claim to be, wouldn’t publishing his name and picture in the media help to find him, as it has done for other wanted criminals?

It is as if the Police Commissioner himself was protecting the individual’s reputation.

Could it be that the boat captain is the same prominent Bahamian who was behind a similar incident last year, an incident for which no one was ever held responsible?

And where is the outrage from Bahamians over this incident?  Bahamians bitch and moan about every silly little thing, but the death of 11 Haitians doesn’t seem to matter at all.

Isn’t that contradictory behaviour for a “Christian country”?
