Dirty Money for Scholarships

Dirty Money

Island Luck web shop officials yesterday awarded $250,000 in scholarships to 20 students to attend Success Training College this semester.

“Island Luck decided that it has to do its part and be its brother’s keeper and encourage other business people and other establishments to do the same,” said Island Luck CEO Sebas Bastian at the ceremony outside the college.

Bastian said company officials decided to help students who couldn’t help themselves.

“We just wanted to try and help Bahamians that really can’t afford to pay for college, but have the ambition and want to make things better for their life.”

Over 300 applicants sought scholarships, but only 20 were chosen, Bastian said.

Students were asked to write an essay detailing which career they would choose and how it would impact economic growth in The Bahamas.

“We chose Success because they have a good curriculum and they have smaller classrooms that are really hands on where they can really learn what it is they have to do,” Bastian said.

President of Success Carlton Neymour thanked Island Luck for the donation.

“You are providing the support necessary to prepare these individuals for careers in business, computers, education and allied health,” he said.

Bastian said Island Luck would also present the four Golden Knights — Chris Brown, Demetrius Pinder, Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller — with cash at a ceremony next week.

They won gold in the men’s relay at the recent Olympics in London.
