Perry ‘Pontius Pilate’ Christie and the Gambling Referendum

Pontius Pilate
Pontius Pilate

Pilate said unto the people, “What shall I do then with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said unto him, “Let him be crucified.”

Let’s look at the picture, it was the high priest and the chief priest who Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, may I ask how much the gambling houses are paying? Is it about the money? As I read and listened to the verbal blows that are being thrown about from different people who are for and who are against this proposed referendum that the government is trying to pass the buck on, I’m amazed, astonished and overwhelmed with extreme astonishment that makes me ask myself two questions: Where are we going as a country and who is the pilot of this ship name Bahamas?

It’s unbelievable that the people who were elected to govern and to put laws in place under our constitution are washing their hands of the gambling referendum, and passing the buck to the people in a time when the economy is bad nationally.

Mr Prime Minister, if you spread the table with food and the people don’t know that it was cooked with poison, they will eat all of it and they will die unknowingly. Mr Prime Minister, like Pilate, who washed his hands and said I am innocent, you are saying that you will let the people make the decision on gambling so your hands will be clean.

May I say, sir, the devil is a liar, you might as well let the people run the country. My question to the public is, after the referendum, should we cut the pay of this government that runs this country? They are not giving a full day’s work for a full day’s pay.

They are asking the people to do their jobs. Like Pilate, I believe the Hon Mr Christie is asking, “What shall I do then with these numbers houses?” Close them down, sir.

Mr Prime Minister, the very churches you went into during your campaign are saying close them down. Is the government asking the question as Pilate asked: What evil has the number houses done? May I tell you, Mr Prime Minister, they destroyed many families and caused many spousal abuse situations. Mr Prime Minister, like the people said, you want to put the blood on us and our children, the devil is still a liar.

Mr Prime Minister it’s time to stand up and be a man and do the job you were put there to do. Sir, we don’t need no Referendum for gambling, we need Referendum on the BTC issue. Should the government spend time and money on trying to recover BTC? We need instead a referendum for capital punishment for those found guilty of murder. These are the pressing things that really face this country today and our livelihood. We all know that it is an international and human rights issue that affects our country, my point to you and any other government of this great and beautiful country is to stand up and stop allowing the Privy Council cronies to tell the government not to exercise capital punishment which is on the books. These people do not live in this country which depends on the tourist dollars and they have no connection with the Bahamian society.

Mr Prime Minister, close the number houses down on the law books, it’s illegal for them to be open. Let’s see things for what they are. If the police find a young man or woman with a joint of marijuana the police will lock him or her up, because it’s against the law. Why are the number house doors swinging wide open day by day and the police consistently pass them by day by day and do nothing?

Are there different laws and standards for the number houses and its people and a different law for the young boy or girl, found with a joint?

Mr Prime Minister, when a country changes government, it is for the betterment of that country, not for the leaders to wash their hands when things look shady, when Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing but that rather a tumult was made, he took water and washed his hand before the multitude and said, “I am innocent of the blood of this just man, see to it.” Is the number houses saying the same thing, “see to it”?

May I say, sir, your hands are just as guilty. Think on these things.
