Morton Salt, Inc. announced today that Glenn Bannister, general manager of Morton Bahamas Limited, will retire on March 31, 2013, capping off a successful 36-year career with the company.  Charles Farquharson will succeed Bannister as general manager and will be responsible for the company’s salt harvesting operation on the island of Inagua.

“All of us at Morton Salt would like to take this opportunity now to thank Glenn for his outstanding service and commitment to Morton Bahamas Limited,” said Guy Leblanc, vice president, Operations for Morton Salt, Inc. “Because of his leadership for more than three decades, the salt harvesting operation in Inagua continues to serve as an important part of our production network. We wish him all the best upon his retirement.”

Farquharson joins Morton Salt from The Source River Limited, the producer of Echo premium distilled water, where he was vice president, Operations.  Prior to this role, he spent 30 years with Bacardi & Company Limited in Nassau.

During his career with Bacardi, Farquharson held a series of operations roles with increased responsibility, most recently serving as vice president, Operations from 2006-2010. In this position, he managed plant operations including the distillery, maintenance and engineering and new projects.

“We are very pleased that Charles is joining Morton Bahamas Limited,” Leblanc said.  “His vast operations background and experience make him an excellent fit for the role and I am confident he will make a smooth transition to the salt industry.”

Farquharson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and Management from the University of Ottawa in Canada.  Both Farquharson and Bannister are active in the community and are Distinguished Past Presidents of Kiwanis Clubs in the Bahamas.
