Vehicle Attacks On Shirley Street Still Ongoing

At least six drivers have recently been attacked, with cement bricks being thrown into their vehicle’s windshields, as they drove along Shirley Street between Harbour Bay and Kemp Road after dark.

Gunshots were also reported at about the same time the bricks were thrown.

Officer in Charge of the Northeastern Division Superintendent Theopholis Cunningham said, “There is no need to be alarmed, we believe the incidents were isolated and is not a trend that we should continue to see.”

Many vehemently disagree.

These incidents ARE indeed believed to be a trend and a growing trend at that.

As just one example: Three years ago one of the founders of BahamasB2B was attacked in her car as she pulled out of the Harbour Bay Shopping Center at 9pm. A young man jumped on top of her car and threw a large rock at her windshield, while a second man came towards her car door.

She made a police report but it is not known whether the matter was ever investigated – though it would appear not, as there have been several other similar attacks in the same area over the years since, and these attacks are still continuing.

Also a few years ago, one woman had to get seven stitches after being struck in the head with an unknown object when she was forced to stop her car on Shirley Street to avoid hitting a group of teenagers who refused to move out of the way.

This proves these are not isolated incidents, as the police would have the public believe. This has been going on for a long time in this area.
