R. M. Bailey High School Hosts 11th Grade Retreat

The Guidance Counselling Department of the R. M. Bailey Senior High School hosted an Eleventh Grade Retreat under the theme, Changing Myself Positively, Changes My World. During the one-day retreat, students heard from various speakers on topics addressing tertiary education, finances, cyber crimes and bullying, and appearances.

Mr. H. Gregory J. Bethel, President of Fidelity Bank (Bahamas) Limited spoke to the students on the topic “Education and Finances (Do I Really Need it?)”. Mr. Bethel gave the eleventh graders four major guidelines to follow to be successful in the future:

rm-bailey-21. Plan for the future and take advice from the right person(s);

2. Use your time wisely and do not waste time or opportunities;

3. Use your money and wealth to help others.

4. Accept that the responsibility for your future is in your hands.

R. M. Bailey graduate and Ambassador and Administrative Assistant at Fidelity Bank, Ms. Coline Reckley and Mr. Brendan McClain, Front Desk Ambassador at Fidelity Bank accompanied Mr. Bethel at the retreat and offered some tips for success. Ms. Reckley advised the students to put God first and follow biblical principles. She told them to have a spiritual mentor or guide and set short and long-term goals for obtaining education. Mr. McClain said that a good appearance leads to acceptance when seeking a job. He stressed to the students that good grades on a transcript and having good knowledge about your field of study is a plus.

rm-bailey-jeffrey-beckles-3Mr. Jeffrey Beckles, Manager of the Sports Authority, talked to the students about “Managing My Time and Setting Goals” at the R.M. Bailey Senior High School Eleventh Grade Retreat. Mr. Beckles said to the students, “All of life is measured in time. It is a commodity of life and our most precious resource”. He told the students to set goals every day and practice the habits of people who are successful. He encouraged the students to take advantage of opportunities and think ahead because your feet cannot take you where your mind has never gone.

Other speakers at the retreat included Inspector Mark Barrett of the Royal Bahamas Police Force; Ms. Simone Gibson, Founder of Pure Purpose Network; Pastor Reno Brennen, Pastor of Youth and Children’s Ministries at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church; Miss Spencer Dean, Compliance Manager at Fidelity Bank and Mr. Darren Turnquest, Director of Youth.
