“We are looking to find a name for the beer that we will be brewing in Grand Bahama and I would like to invite the residents of Grand Bahama to help us come up with the names for our locally brewed beers,” Sands said on Friday. “When we open our doors and sell that first bottle of beer, we want it to have a locally suggested name. After all, we are an all-Bahamian and Grand Bahamian Company. We would like to have a local competition to ‘Name That beer!’ and give the lucky winner who suggests the name $3,000. This is a Grand Bahama company and I want Grand Bahama to be a part of what we are creating here.”
Sands is charging full pace with plans to make this Grand Bahamian Brewery nationally competitive.
“We have waited a long time to make this happen and we want to start selling your Grand Bahama Brew as soon as possible,” Sands said. “We are looking for a name that identifies with Grand Bahama. We want to send a message that this is “All Bahamian. We want a name that proclaims our local and national pride!”
Entry into the competition has also been made as easy as possible for residents.
“We invite Grand Bahamians, and Grand Bahamians only, to either go on to our website at www.bahamianbrewery.com, mail in your ideas by sending in one of our ads from the Grand Bahama local newspapers or by dropping your application off at our marketing firm, Barefoot Marketing located at #5 Orlando House, Queens Highway, Freeport, Grand Bahama. We want every interested adult Grand Bahamian to have an opportunity to make beer history in Grand Bahama and win $3,000. It’s easy and fun,” said Sands.
The competition end on September 30. It is open to all Grand Bahama residents who are over the age of 18. Each resident is also allowed three chances to enter and have the opportunity to win $3,000. “Just imagine,” said Sands, “since the brewery is looking for two names, someone could be the lucky winner twice if they come up with the winning names in our ‘Name That Beer’ competition. Full competition rules can be found on the Brewery’s website at www.bahamianbrewery.com
“Once we choose the lucky winners, we can start to proudly market our local Grand Bahamian beers,” added Sands “This is history in the making. These names will launch our efforts. We have confidence in the community. We are sure they will come up with creative, different, fun and most importantly, Grand Bahamian ideas. This is a beer the people of Grand Bahama will name which they can be proudly called their own. I hope many people participate. You don’t have to be a beer drinker, you just need a great idea and you will make history and could win up to $6,000.”
Grand Bahama’s new brewery, which is due to open in 2007, will be approximately 40,000 square feet. Construction on the 20 acres of land located at the intersection of Queens Highway and Grand Bahama Way began three weeks ago.
Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Co. also plans to include a Bavarian Beer Garden restaurant/bar and retail theme park attraction and outlet and will look to employ over 30 Grand Bahamians.
