Murder Accused Charged With Conspiring To Kill Teenager

Already on remand for murder, Angelo “Nasty” Brennen was charged on Monday with conspiring to kill a 16-year-old girl.

Just over a week ago, Calvonya Grant, reportedly a key witnesses in Brennen’s murder trail, was shot twice in the back after two masked gunmen entered her grandmother’s Prison Lane home where she went to live after her mother’s murder last October.

The girl had also been shot in her thigh in the October incident on Farrington Road.

Authorities believed that Brennen and his older brother, Cordell, are responsible for attempting to end her life in the morning hours of April 30.

The brothers were arraigned separately, charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The latter was charged on Friday.

They were also charged with conspiracy to cause two other witnesses, Aaron Woodside and Leander Culmer, from giving evidence in the court proceedings.

Brennen was not required to enter a plea and was sent back to Her Majesty’s Prison until a preliminary inquiry later this month.

Due to the severity of the matter – authorities believe that the teenager could be paralyzed – Prosecutor Inspector Ercell Dorsette requested that the court proceed with a voluntary bill of indictment to fast track the matter to the Supreme Court.

He told the magistrate during the arraignment that he was not aware of the length of time it would take for the victim to heal or even be discharged from the hospital.

Magistrate Virgill took note of the prosecutor’s request and said that Angelo’s alleged accomplice, Cordell, would have to be brought before the court and informed of the voluntary bill of indictment request.

During his arraignment on Friday, Cordell pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. Both brothers are expected to return to court on May 18 for a preliminary inquiry.

The murder of Ms. Pinder sent shocked waves throughout the community back in October after she was gunned down in broad light on a bus stop on Farrington Road.

Her neighbours told The Bahama Journal at the time that Angelo Brennen was an ex-boyfriend.

On Monday, as Magistrate Virgill read the charges, Brennen stood in the prisoner’s dock shackled at the feet.

After the charges were read, he sat staring at the prosecutor as he requested the voluntary bill of indictment.

Some of Brennen’s family members were also in the courtroom for the arraignment. One of the relatives, who was identified as Brennen’s mother, sat teary-eyed as the charges were read.
