Bahamians will once again have a chance to explore the world through food at the International Cultural Fair slated to take place October 22 and 23 at the picturesque Botanical Gardens.
Celebrating its 11th year, the International Cultural Fair is a global culinary event which will provide the perfect opportunity to try traditional cuisine from around the world. This event will be a premier showcase of domestic and international culinary talent, food products, arts and crafts. Over 40 countries, including Haiti, China, the United States, Nigeria and India, are expected to be represented.
“As always, we are very excited about this event, which brings together all the different nationals residing in The Bahamas. It is our hope that events such as these, will continue to bridge the cultural gap between the various nationalities here,” said James Catalyn, Chairperson of the International Cultural Committee.
Catalyn said that 10 years ago, when the event was first staged, it was supposed to only be a one-time event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. But it was so well-received by the public, that organizers decided to make it an annual event. “Initially, we were just doing it to celebrate the United Nations but the event was so popular in The Bahamas, that we just decided to host it annually,” said Catalyn. He added that this is a great opportunity for Bahamians to learn more about the cultures of other countries. He, therefore, invited students and families to take part in this enriching cultural experience.
And this year, in keeping with its original objective, this year’s event will be under the theme The United Nations – A mixture of cultures, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations. “We are pleased with the enthusiasm and support that the public has shown over the years and we look forward to another successful event,” said Catalyn. He added that he is also pleased with the` support shown by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fred Mitchell and his ministry. The public is encouraged to continue to show its support of this two day event.
