If one wants to know the reason for so many hit and run accidents in the Bahamas one only has to look at the foolish policies of the Bahamas Police Force.
A hit and run accident victim was informed today by Staff Officer Stephen Adderley at Police Headquarters that hit and run accidents are not an “arrestable offense”. Apparently that is true even if the accident results in the loss of life or damage to another’s vehicle.
It doesn’t take a legal expert to see how this foolishness would only lead to an increase in hit and run accidents, which have already increased by 250 per cent in the past year.
In most civilized countries leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, in and of itself. It not clear why this is not true in The Bahamas, which is fast gaining a reputation as a “lawless jungle”.
