The High Commission of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in London is pleased to announce that on Thursday 10th February 2005, in London, His Excellency Basil O�Brien, High Commissioner to the Court of St. James�s signed a Joint Communiqu� establishing formal diplomatic relations between The Bahamas and Pakistan.
The Joint Communiqu� which was also signed on behalf of Pakistan by Her Excellency Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan High Commissioner to the Court of St. James�s, states that the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan desirous of strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries have decided to establish diplomatic relations at the Ambassadorial level with effect from 10th February 2005.
The Governments agreed that their diplomatic relations would be founded on the principles and norms of the United Nations Charter and International Law.
The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Government of Pakistan are fully convinced that the establishment of diplomatic relations corresponds to the interests of both States and will strengthen international peace and security.
The two Parties also agreed that their diplomatic relations shall be guided by the provision of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961.
The Bahamas and Pakistan have a history of close cooperation in organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth. The establishment of formal relations with Pakistan is part of The Bahamas Governmentᄡs foreign policy of establishing diplomatic relations with all member states of the Commonwealth. The Bahamas looks forward to continued close collaboration with Pakistan, not only on a bilateral basis, but also in the Commonwealth, the United Nations and other multilateral arena.
